Die vornehmen, im geschützten Bereich der Kunst verwahrten Zumutungen Newmans werden relevant, wenn man sie zu nutzen beginnt. Nutzen setzt voraus, dass Newmans Bilder nicht im Tempel der Kunst verbleiben, sondern als kritischer Impuls verstanden werden. In den fünfziger Jahren sprach er davon, dass seine Gemälde richtig „verstanden“, das Ende von Staatskapitalismus und Totalitarismus bedeuten. Zu wessen Ende kann denn heute Newmans Algebra beitragen? Etwa zum Ende der digital dynamisierten Globalisierung, die eine Ende klassischer Nationalstaaten und eine Geburt transnationaler Multikonzerne bedeutet?

Atom, the concept of the atom, has functioned as a compass (Cassirer). It led to discoveries of new  realms of  experience and  thinking.  This possibly because of  hybrid combinations. Hybrid combinations of experimental technologies and abstract ways of thinking. What kind of compass do we need to discover ways of dealing with discrepancies? Discrepancies which we can no longer deny, like our habits and the climate shift?
